Awesome Get Away?
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 By Storm Runner - Feb 3, 2010
Stumbled on the Inn on an RR tour one year. Just what I
needed. The indoor rain forest with water falls, streams, and
two person pools was a great contrast to the hot dessert of
the area. Half of the rooms at the Inn open out into the rain
forest area. The other half open out onto the gathering area
which contains a large pool, small play ground for the kids,
and a drinking/eating tent. Every night is a two hour social
for all the guests with many meal specials which are cooked of
the grill and in the oven right there. Some of the best
Mexican food I have had the pleasure of eating. FREE draft and
wine margaritas tops it off and its off for a nap, then you're
off running the streets by Mid-night. Say Cheers to Joseph!!?

Memoral experience...recommend to any and all?

Arrived late in the evening. Found staff to be cheerful and
courteous. Got a great room with patio close to pool. Was
perfect to keep eye on children but still work on-line without
getting wet, best of both world. The facility was clean and
extremely relaxing. The name says it all. The gardens make you
feel at home, so much so that you don't want to leave the
premises. The store on the grounds were so convenient. The
best thing is the price. You save in the room and with all the
amenities offered, you're pretty much covered all the way.
We've stayed at higher end hotels in Laredo, but non compare
to this. We recommend this place to everyone we know. Way to
go Family Gardens. Your pride is reflected in the cleanliness
and attention to detail of the hotel.
Thanks from The Quiroz Family

The Family Inn and Suites was so awesome. I don't know if
there are any words worthy of explaining it. Imagine walking
into a courtyard that immediately makes you feel a serene
feeling of being in the Bahamas or Cancun without actually
being there. There were beautiful ponds flowing throw many
beautiful tropical plants, complete with a waterfall and two
hottubs. It was more beautiful than words can describe. That
is just in the second building. The main building courtyard
has a beautiful swimming pool, hot tub, kid pool, and a bar
like you see on Kenny Chesneys' videos on the beach. They also
have a very well equipped playground for children, even big
kids like me (46 years old). I slid down the sliding board
myself. LOL! Monday through Saturday they serve FREE hot
breakfast and then Free hotdogs, nachos, popcorn, and coffee,
lemonade, or beer from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. The price is very
affordable, especially when you are getting free food twice a
day. It is also located within walking distance of Walmart and
the mall, not to mention other restaurants, and local handmade
pottery . However, you do not have to walk anywhere. The hotel
is very accomodating with a courtesy driver from 7 a.m. til 10
p.m. You are within 5 miles or so of walking or driving across
the border. Don't forget your passport/birth certificate. They
have wonderful shops downtown Laredo and in Mexico. The entire
staff is most accomodating to any thing you need. We also had
the pleasure of meeting one of the family owners, Joni, who
was just a very sincere person. We found in talking with her
that a family member does all of their landscaping, which
makes it even more fabulous. Now, to the rooms. The rooms are
a very nice size, very clean, very comfortable. They are also
equipped with refrig and microwave. I have stayed in some of
the very elite hotels, but I can tell you I have never stayed
anywhere as special as the Family Garden Inn and Suites. They
completely live up to their name, "Family". I would highly
recommend even if you weren't planning a trip to Laredo, TX,
go just for the experience of the Family Garden Inn and
Suites. You won't be sorry!!!!! I wish I had my pictures
downloaded so I could add them.

This hotel was excellent. We had our truck in the shop and
stayed here for 4. It was a very quiet 4 days. They have 4
spas in the courtyard with a waterfall running through them
and the rooms were very clean and well kept. They also have a
cabana where they offer free beer, hot dogs, popcorn and
nachos and cheese from 6-8. The staff is very friendly. This
is a very good hotel. We will most definitely stay here again
the next time we are here in Laredo, TX.

I was forced to spend three days in Laredo and completely by
chance found The Family Garden. I know that the more
"sophisticated" travelers probably will poo poo this motel but
I found it wonderful. It was relaxing, clean, neat, and well
organized.
The staff was friendly and took very good care of me. The
happy hour was wonderful, I did not eat much of the free food
but the Fajita plate was cooked perfectly over a live mesquite
fire. The free beer was good and cold and served with a large
serving of friendly company.
When I needed to go somewhere the courtesy van was right there
and back to pick you up asap.
The indoor garden in the new building was unique in my
traveling experience and provided a great contrast to the hot
dry Texas city.
Overall I enjoyed my stay and was refreshed and ready to go on
with my job when I left.

The gardens were very pretty and the cabana with "happy hour"
was neat, but all in all I wasn't impressed. We ordered steaks
for dinner and they were a very generous size! I couldn't eat
it all which made our dog very happy ;-).The rooms were so-so.
One great thing is the courtesy van! They picked us up at
Freightliner (truck repairs needed) and returned us the next
day with no waiting. Another couple was headed to the mall.
The driver was wonderful. Since this was our first time in
Laredo I can't compare it to other hotels in the area, but
might try another one if we go back. Laredo itself is very
pretty!

I've stayed at the Family Garden Inn many times over the past
nine years (most recently in January, 2008) and each time I
have experienced a friendly and helpful staff, clean spacious
rooms, a cabana serving a continental breakfast planned to
prepare anyone for the day ahead and, later in the day, a
fabulous "Social/Happy Hour" (actually two hours) inviting all
guests to relax after a long day enjoying hot dogs, nachos,
beer, lemonade, popcorn -- ALL FREE -- and mouth-watering menu
items prepared at order (for modest prices) and frozen
Margaritas.
I always get the feeling that I'm in the midst of the New
Orleans' French Quarter when I'm in the cabana taking in the
360 degree view of the white wrought iron-works highlighting
the separate patios for each room on the bottom floor and the
walkway above outside each room.
The main building surrounds a large, clean swimming pool
tapering off to a wading pool and a play area for kids who
always receive special attention at the Family Garden Inn.
The new building unique, to say the least. All rooms surround
an indoor jungle filled with tropical plants and trees, spas,
running streams, and walkways; a refreshing escape from the
outside world.
The other services that make me return time and again are the
free shuttle service, great cable and PPV selections, free
local calls, close proximity to Mall del Norte, excellent
restaurants and major shopping areas. And, it's pet friendly.
But above all, it's their friendly and helpful staff!!!

This is the second time my family has stayed at this hotel and
we LOVED it both times. We only stayed for one night but it
was great. I loved that it has a fun atomoshere for young
people but still great for a family stay. The staff was great!
My boys loved the playground with the huge slide and
especially loved visiting the "jungle".
